Guided by the mission to provide children with excellent care, treatment and advocacy, since its founding in 1868, Bellefaire JCB is recognized regionally and nationally for developing unique services to fill critical needs. Bellefaire balances mission fulfilment with strategic decisions to ensure the long-term sustainability of the agency while making certain that necessary services are provided for the children, youth, and families who need us the most.
A Campus with Heart
Bellefaire JCB is located on 32 park-like acres in Shaker Heights, an eastern suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. At any given time our campus has the sounds and sites of youth and teens who attend school through our Monarch Center for Autism programs, participate in after school and summer group counseling, come for outpatient counseling or psychiatry sessions, or live on our campus in a residential treatment cottage or transitional and independent living apartment.
In addition to hundreds of employees who work in the main administration building, you can often see a foster parent receiving training, a new family preparing to meet their adoptive child, or our volunteer mentors holding an activity with their Littles.
Our rich history and sincere dedication of our staff is what adds to the warmth you will experience when you visit our campus.

Our History
Cleveland Jewish Orphan Asylum was founded in 1868 in Cleveland, Ohio and was residence to 80 children. By 1900, the orphanage cared for 400 children in a home located at E. 55th Street and Woodland Avenue. The cornerstone of the new campus was laid in 1928 at the agency’s current location on Fairmount Boulevard in Shaker. The orphanage is renamed Bellefaire Jewish Children’s Bureau, now known as Bellefaire JCB.
In 1941 the agency begins offering therapeutic services for at-risk youth and those needing a stable living environment. Over time the agency expanded its community-based programs to include school-based counseling, after school group counseling, in-home family counseling, psychiatry and more. Today we provide a full array of outreach, treatment and prevention services in the community, schools and your home.
